What are Lawn Mowers?
Lawn mowers are machines used to cut a lawn at an even length. It makes use of a revolving blade that cuts into the grass.

Basically, there are two kinds of lawn mowers based on the mechanism by which their blades use. There are a couple things to consider when you want to buy a mower for your own use.

The rotary mowers make use of a blade rotating on a vertical axis while the cylinder mowers make use of blade rotating on a horizontal axis.

Several designs for lawn mowers have been invented and reinvented to match each need and purpose. Some makes use of manual pushing while others make use of energy through an electrical source.

The Two Main Types of Lawn Mowers

These mowers are basically classified into two types:

1. Push Mowers

These are the smallest types that is usually pushed by a human as the word itself states.  They are also called walk behind mowers or push reel lawn mowers.

This traditional way is perfect for home use with small residential lawns or gardens to take care of.   It is also the more affordable solution to keep gardens and lawns well kempt.

It has been ages ago when these are said to be hard to use.  New technologies today have advanced so much that even these manual mowers have become easy to use.  Some are even lighter than the motorized mowers nowadays.  They may be gas powered or electric powered as well.

2. Riding Mowers

These are the bigger types used to cater larger lawns.  They are also known as ride-on lawn mowers.

This bigger machine has a seat provided for the rider who will be controlling the mower.  It actually looks like an agricultural tractor.  Most riding mowers make use of a horizontal rotating multiple blade system.

How to Determine Which Lawn Mowers to Choose

Several factors should be considered before proceeding with a lawn mower purchase as there are many types and kinds out there today.  Here are some factors to consider when buying lawn mowers:

  • Lawn size and shape
  • Grass types
  • Power source you prefer
  • Design you would want on your lawn – striped effect or plain
